Self Empowerment

Updated: Mar 31, 2020

I have found that in 45 years of working with people there is a recurring theme of folks second guessing themselves to varying degrees on matters large and small. In many that pattern leads to a type of paralysis wherein the opinion of others is given more credibility and authority than the person gives to their own opinion. I am not discussing consulting experts regarding matters one has little to no base knowledge but the day to day opinions and decisions we make consistently.

This second-guessing we tend to do has been taught to us by many sources including cultural norms, religion, and domineering personalities

we’ve spent time with. It becomes a habit and one that can cause us to

make choices that serve neither our interests nor our higher path. In time, we feel regret, confusion, anger, and even victimization wondering how the heck we got to this place. We got there by giving away our power to another…and we’ve all done it.

Self-empowerment is a choice. Every minute of everyday we make a choice to come from love or fear. Love is the foundation from which our Higher self, our essential self operates while fear is the home of the egoic self- the voice that tells us we are less than, inadequate, we can only win if others lose.

This blog will focus on many topics and ways implement the ideas with self empowerment is ultimately at the core of all topics. My mission is to encourage each client to remember who they truly are; an infinitely loved, wholly valuable, powerful being who is very much needed on this Earth at this time.

The process of feeling empowered involves many aspects but I want to mention a few to begin the exploration.

  • Self acceptance- extending love, kindness and understanding to ourselves first. As Gandhi wisely said, “Peace begins at home”. Accepting ourselves begins by focusing on the present moment- the NOW. The present moment does not include baggage of the past, nor fears for the future. We simply allow ourselves as we are now.

  • Self worth- watch it rise simply by extending love to ourselves! We come to realize that we are more than just our bodies, we are more than our work and what we do, and we have incredible value just being who we are. We have nothing to defend and nothing to prove. With worth comes knowing we can find win win solutions.

  • Discernment employs gut feeling/intuition and critical thinking skills both of which are essential to pay attention to. When discussing self- empowerment discernment includes observation of thoughts running through. What tape is the ego running today? …there’s always something. Remember the ego operates in fear often by inserting limiting, self- disparaging thoughts (I called this the wounded inner 12 year old). When you notice these thoughts, start laughing! Take the power right out of them- they reflect conditioned beliefs that are lies.

Life is a process containing many more processes and since we’re in it, let’s enjoy it. We can become more self-empowered and have fun at the same time. Keep your sense of humor and laugh heartily at your self- I laugh at my self a lot!!! I’ve found that for most of us, there is no “there” there meaning this not Mt Everest with some ultimate peak…relax and enjoy the journey.
